What Is Taoism?
Taoism is An old religion started by a man named Lao-Tzu. Taoism originated around 2000 years ago in China. The religion ha also spread to Korea and Japan. Taoism has millions of followers today. 20 million to be exact. The "Holy Book" of the religion is called the Tao Te Ching. Religious holidays are important to Taoists. They celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Lantern festival, Tomb Sweeping, the Dragon Boat, Ghosts, and Mid Autumn festivals, Double Ninth Day and Lao-Tzu's birthday. Wow, thats a lot of holidays. The Taoists also have rituals, practices, and beliefs like everyone else does. They believe in death and the afterlife as well as immortals. The purpose of life and the Tao plus chi. There is a lot of beliefs. Their clothing style consists of dresses or robes. Is there a hierarchy? Yes, there is believed to be an old family that had a hierarchy but it doesn't really specify who.
